Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Weather

What does the next three months of winter have to offer for Pennsylvania, and what are the dates to look at now? While we believe that North Asia will get more abnormal cold than North America during this event, it looks like a decent Arctic cold air source will build up in mid-January.

We will continue to have favourable weather conditions for cold and snow until at least the beginning of February, and we have had this throughout the winter. In our winter outlook, we found that La Nina typically brings above and below average snow levels in January and February, but these can be offset and still produce a cold, snowy pattern. Although we will only cover January in this outlook, we can say that most states are likely to end the winter with above-average temperatures and snowfall, which is contrary to almost all winter forecasts. At the end of the month, we expect below-average temperatures until a sudden event of stratospheric warming finally falls out of the troposphere.

We will probably look at the period from January 19 to late January through at least early February, and then we expect a western US ridge to develop, which might open up some wintry weather opportunities at that time. Due to the increasing degree days alone, the first spring blooms appear in Pittsburgh in late April or early May, though they may not appear until late May or even early June. The clearest part of the year for Pittsburgh starts on May 15 and lasts 5-9 months and ends on November 12.

The Hurricanes are on track to reach the playoffs for the first time since moving from Hartford, Connecticut, to North Carolina in 1997. Playing against the rebuilding Red Wings in a pandemic - a Central Division remake - should help Carolina's chances.
