Osborne Elementary School Reviews

Osborne Elementary is a beautifully renovated school with much to offer. I have found the teaching staff to be excellent and dedicated--and this is coming from a parent of a child with special needs. As for new teaching concepts, visit their website and read about the awards given to Osborne. It is both a blue ribbon school and has received the Keystone Achievement Award for 4 straight years, so they must be doing something right academically! Parental involvement is indeed encouraged. I've had opportunities to volunteer in my child's classroom, and at many other events throughout the year. Sewickley is a racially-as well as socio-economically- diverse community, and Osborne reflects that. School visits are welcomed and encouraged for prospective families.

As a former student and now parent, this is a lovely school. The tradition is what makes it great. There isn't a high turnover on teachers so some of my same teachers got to be my childs teachers. There's something good to say about tradition. The school is definately academically competative. There IS a music program, and children wishing to learn an instrument are encouraged to do so in fourth grade. Newly remodeled school is beautiful. The school is doing great things for children with disabilities and learning disabilities. I am glad I was lucky enough to attend this school and am equally happy my children get that same opportunity.

In my opinion, this school suffered from lack of insight into new teaching concepts. Gender bias literature, conflicting messages to children regarding candy for reading incentives and fundraising, but dental professional visiting telling them candy is not good for teeth...Tenured staff...Too old school/ traditional. Parental participation in fundraising highly encouraged. Competition among students and grades encouraged. Informed/involved parents seemed to be discouraged. IF music was made available I was not aware of this.(lower grades) Not racially diverse. Left school after 3 months to private sector where my child excelled. The school was very secure at all times. (due to 9/11).
