Lakewood High School Reviews

My Daughter is attending Lakewood High and i would not recommended this school to anyone. The staff there are very unorganized, impolitle and the hardly focus on students education. They dont take the time to help the kids that need help with there studies, they care about discipline with the students.there discipline is very wrong, they do not give each student a fair chance.my daughter has went to a school in galloway.ohio and she loved it there we did not miss lakewood and all. this is the worst school i have seen. the bullying, teachers, adminatration, everything.but i do have to say one good thing about this school the activities for this school are very good, the groups a child can sign up for are manyy...there is alot to choose from. i would give this school a 20/100 and the 20 is for the activities. if you are planning to move here,Lakewood High isnt the best bet.

I raised three daughters in the Lakewood school system. Due to a move to Georgia my third child will not graduate from LHS. After a year in the Georgia school system we miss Lakewood High School. Teachers and staff at LHS were very parent friendly. My husband and I got support when we needed it. (Our second child was not the easiest to controll). I would highly recommend LHS.

I agree with the parents that posted on April 11, 2008 and December 24, 2007. I have had mostly negative interaction with the high school and their staff. My daughter has been a student for almost 3 years and she has continued to go downhill academically and behaviorally. She has been given so many out of school suspensions which are an antiquated means of discipline . These add to the unexused absences along with no credit given for any work completed. The atmosphere feels more like a prison with an air of repression rather than a school where kids want to be. I can only imagine the attiudes of the security guards patroling the hallways. I only hope she does not give up.

This school is in a city with a very diverse population. The city has gone from a solid middle class to a solid lower middle class to upper lower class suburb. The change in the type of people living in the city has stressed the school system and its resources. Therefore, if your a gifted student you will not have a problem. If you're an average student to below average student, then you will struggle for growth and improvement with this school. Violence is increasing in the school along with other crimes. The head principal seems more concerned about the No Child Left Behind Act -therefore cutting corners when it comes time to the discipline of students. The gifted program is very good, music program is very good , anything that has the gifted as a target students is very good. Sports is second rate for such a large school.

Lakewood High School is a fantastic high school. It is situated in one of the most desirable suburbs of Cleveland. The academics are like no other and the selection of activities is large. Lakewood teachers help keep students engaged and help them be successful. Lakewood High School has a diverse student body with Middle Class, Upper-Middle Class, and Upper-Class Families calling this their community school. Lakewood High School is among the best schools in the western suburbs if not all of Ohio.

This school is too large for it's own good. We moved here two years ago, this year my daughter started skipping. When we asked for help from the school they bascially told us they were way to large to worry about a handful of students. They are great for kids who already doing well but if your child struggles you may as we ll forget it My daughter has gone way down hill since we moved here. It's sad.

Dr. Wagner, the other house principals, our superb Board of Education members, and the majority of the LHS staff are enthusiasic, energetic, professionals dedicated to the education of Lakewood's teen--all of them--from every socioeconomic, educational, and ethnic background. (If only the students' parents were as committed to the success of their kids! It's sad to see dwindling numbers of parents at cirriculum night, school concerts, fundraisers & PTA events.) LHS offers professional-class music ensembles, art & theatre productions, student publications, culinary program, multiple sports opportunities & an ever-growing number of clubs --in other words, myriad opportunities for students to succeed! While there are scholarships & work programs for students who can't afford pay-to-play to participate, too many are not availing themselves of these marvelous opportunities! LHS gives students of varying abilities the tools to succeed. Lakewood is very fortunate!

Ve good security in this school, including a mobile patrol to catch cutters and a very interactive teacher populaion. I rate this school at 80/100

My children has graduated from this high school and they enjoyed the education very much. This is a great school to attend. Students get help on what their education when needed, and the teachers prepare their students for their future.

WE have had 3 generations of our family pass through LHS. I have nothing but praise for my Alma Mater. My daughter graduated last year and my son will be there in a year. I stay in Lakewood so they will reap the benefits of this wonderful high school and my mom, my daughter and I did. The academics, the teachers and the music program are all first class and always have been. If it wasnt for LHS and their wonderful curriculum and professional staff, my daughter wouldnt be in a great university as she is today.

The academics are average. The music program is top notch. My son is a musician so he is thriving in this area. There are many opportunities for him with above average music teachers.

I think this is one of the best public schools in ohio. I am not a parent, I am a student that attends Lakewood. It is very diverse in race and culture and provides a clean, safe envoirment to learn in. I love it and I wouldnt want to attend anywhere else. Go lakewood! ranger

I think that the school could use a lot of improvement. It can use improvement with some of the teachers, with the principle being seen more. Most of all though they need improvement with the guards. I think that the guards are a big part of the problem in school. The dicipline can use some work too.

I have been involved with Lakewood Schools for over 30 years as a parent, teacher and school board member. The district is remarkable for the breadth and depth of its programs (4 years of Latin, an award winning orchestra, an in-house vocational school, ESL and Special Ed programming, for example). It is also remarkable for the support it receives from the community and its committment to parent and community involvement.

Both of my children went all 12 years through Lakewood schools. Although they are very different people, both had extremely positive experiences, and are now performing beautifully in college. We found the teachers & administration to be responsive, with students' best interest at heart. Class offerings & extracurriculars are many & varied. The school even has the country's first rock orchestra--drawing national attention. Now there's a way to keep kids interested in music! Test scores aren't the only measure of a school's success.

This school is the best school. Very exciting to a young pupil's eye's. I was very excited my first day here. Lots of movement and different varieties of people not to mention theextracurricular activities you can choose.

My daughter just graduated from LHS in June. She had a wonderful 4 years at the school. She had excellent teachers. Lakewood has a great music program. It also has a great school newspaper. I think the more you put into the school, the more you get out of it. She will be attending the University of Dayton this fall. I have to thank the teachers of Lakewood Schools for making that possible. They kept her interested and involved the whole 13 years she attended Lakewood schools.
