Collinwood High School Reviews

I graduated from CHS in 2007, I was a cheerleader and an honors student. Its neither dirty nor poorly maintained. Every year I attended it seemed to get better. It is not only athletics that they care about. They offer many advanced placement class, I took advantage of all of them from the time I was a freshman to the time I graduated salutatorian. The resources are available students just have to have the drive.

CHS was a dirty and poorly maintained school. All they care about is the athletic program.

This was an all right high school when I went there. I didn't have very much difficulties when I attended this school. It's like other Cleveland public schools, it has goods and it has bads. I believe that parent involvement and discipline needs a little more improvement.

I am a graduate of Collinwood Senior high school. A successful student at the school must take a very proactive stance. One must take personal responsibility for their education and long-term career goals. CHS is one of the better schools in the CMSD. The school needs to add rigor and more advanced placement classes to their curricular plan. Currently, most high functioning schools offer atleast ten A.P. or IB courses for students to choose from. The teachers must also expand their curriculum to assist students by increasing their level of critical thinking. After, reflecting on my studies at Collinwood the level of expectations was not where it should have been. Personally, I had a wonderful experience at the school. When I run into my old classmates it seemed that 'we' attended two seperate schools. In closing, Collinwood has a marginal to fair academic program which needs a great deal of work. On the positive side there has always been quality administrators, some dedicated staff members, and students that loved being Railroaders. Moreover, the school is what you make it! Some teachers are more prepared and better equipped than others (make sure you take their classes) Good luck to all!

I am a 1995 alum of CHS. It is the type of school where you have to take the lead in your education. In order to be a successful alum one must be proactive and assertive when it comes to academic course selection. The school is not the best but, it is possible to seek out the most challenging teachers and courses. In addition, the school needs to add more A.P. coursework to expand critical thinking skills amongst the student body. In the late 90's Collinwood was fairly safe and most students took pride in the school. The honors and thematic program were fairly solid. The thematic program was like a school within a school -- a very family like academic experience. The English department and Upper-level math courses were excellent. The A.P. science courses were not rigourous enough. Over-all the school was better than most in the Cleveland public school system.
