I've witnessed first-hand the extra hours and effort by teachers and staff, the great majority of whom obviously enjoy their jobs. The school's best offering is its teachers. Most of them were hand-picked when the school re-opened in 2000 (?) Parent involvement could be better, however. Most of the teachers are caring and good. the principal does not take time to care as much for the children. some of the staff dont call home if children are sick or hurt. for safety at this school is very poor. aug. 1, 2006” Posted By: parent Quality Score: 5 2006-07-22 “As a parent, I am struck by how well each child receives individual attention at Lakewood. To start with, each child is greeted in the morning as they walk to class by at least 3 different staff members. During lunch hour, students again receive individual attention from lunch helpers. This is also true for academics. If a child falls below expectations, they are quickly identified for individual attention. It is not uncommon to see the Principal also participating in tutoring those with needs. Lakewood came in at 94-98% in the latest M.E.A.P. test for reading. The previous writer's comment is quite untrue. I would also like to mention Lakewood makes an extra effort to provide a safe and respectful enviornment to each of their students.” Posted By: parent Quality Score: 3 2006-01-11 “Lakewood Elementary boasts and is proud that 80% of its students read at the target goal. The parent,teacher and staff involvement is extremly high. Lakewood is a small school just about 200 children (grades k-5) and most of the teachers and staff know all the children by name. The teachers are well educated and very involved with the students. Lakewood does well on the state MEAP test normally scores above the district in most areas. Lakewood offers music, art and gym classes as well as after school extracurricular activities including lanugage, art, and sports classes. The parent involvement is very high at Lakewood. The office staff is attentive and all teachers are dedicated by active programs to futher all student achievment. There is a participative friendly attitude by parents and the availability of extracurricular activities is noteworthy. Improvements are continuous and student support of teachers is noticable. Great job by all staff which generates pride in elementary school education and social development skill.”
