Detroit Open School Reviews

This is an excellent school that embraces essential foundation of learning. It also prepares students for a bright future.

I am a student at Detroit Open. I love Detroit Open School it is a creative and well educated school. The only bad thing about the school is the students and the bad roof.If you wont your children to go here you are making the right move.

My child is in middle school here at Detroit Open.I am very disappointed.I have not heard of many fights. So its safe in that area.My child has maintained honor roll status but I am not pleased. My child is getting A's and B's on busy work. In one of the classes my child does not bring home many assignments that correspond with the text.Nothing productive that will prepare them for testing. This may be okay with some parents as long as their children are getting A's.In reality this practice is not helping our children. Its not preparing them to compete academically or have good test taking skills.Rowdy classrooms!Rowdy enough that teacher's sometimes can't teach, students can't successfully learn or complete tasks. Kids play too much in class. The teachers and authority seems as though they have lost the grip of maintaining control in the class. Its not a productive environment.

I went to DOS from Kindergarten to eighth grade and the school was fine for the first few years. I say that only because we were naiive enough not to realize what was happening to us. We were always far behind every other school in mathematica and science. We could read and we could write and do spectacular works of art but as far as the other side of the brain was concerned alot of us were left severely underveloped. At least the schools policies and principals of trust and unity somewhat made up for that but all of that changed. Its not worth going to without actual the open school philosophy thats long gone.

When this school was first built it was meant to be a creative learning environment made around the needs of the kids. However that freedom went away with a previous principal and now it is becoming a deeply below average public school. If you are actually learning something you are not at Detroit Open. Not only is the school's curriculum not made with the children in mind but now it is more of a dictatorship. With the introduction of uniforms and the constant changes in staff the school is just going down hill. I have been a student at Detroit Open for 8 years and it has changed so much and become so bad that I don't know if I will go back.

My wife and I are very happy with the Open School. Our son, who is currently in 7th grade, has attended the Open School since Kindergarten. It has provided a caring yet challenging environment. The environment and teachers have also developed a love of learning for my son. We are very happy with the faculty. We have a very good principal who has provided direction to the school. Finally, my son's teachers have been very good to excellent. We have been and continue to be very pleased with the Open School.

This is our 1st year at open and we are very disappointed. I sat in the class and witnessed disrespect and rudeness from the teacher. The students questions were not answered in a way that upbuilds and encourages learning. I have lots of friends whose children are enrolled here and had high expectations from the learning program. Only to find that my childs teacher is new to the school and is using her own teaching methods she has used throughout her long teaching career. Since there is only one class per grade we are forced to find another school that has a teacher whose in tune with the schools philosophy.

Detroit open was hype. I graduated as the class of 2003 and it was sweet to me. I am currently a 10th grader at Cass and going strong. But if you want your daughter/son to have fun at school AND learn in a safe environment, send them here. Babs Bunny

Detroit Open School is a geat school. I graduated last year, and I currently have a 4.0 at Renaissance High School, one of the best in the state. The school provides great curriculum in a warm and inviting atmosphere. I reccommend the school to parens looking for a nuturing and creative leraning experience for their child.

This is my child's first year at Detroit Open. As of today, I have found that the teachers and students are very cordial and receptive. The programs are geared toward the interests of the children and the school provides a very warm atmosphere for learning. My child really enjoys going to school this year. The new principal seems to have a agenda for this school year full of interesting ways to teach our children and is geared toward keepng their best interests at heart.
