Cass Technical High School Reviews

I am a student at Cass Tech. I love a lot this was my school of choice and I feel that I have chose the right school. I also feel that Cass has and allow me to learn everything that I need to know to get somewhere.

I am a Cass Tech parent. My daughter is a senior. She has attended CT since the 9th grade. Overall I must say I am very satisfied with the majority of the teachers, staff and other CT parents. Parent participation is great. Parents and families come out in record numbers at Parent-Teacher conferences and other events. I always feel at home at CT!

I'm a parent of a freshman student this year for 2008. And as many has spoken on the school, my husband and I are very impressed. The attendance officer is excellent. I think the school is doing well and I'm proud to say my son (will!) graduate from Cass. The school is clean and the staff is professional. Nothing is perfect, and as a whole we must come together as a whole and work as a team. It is so very easy to see the faults, but lets come together and come up with solutions. Last but not least, Cass has always been known for it's academic standards. You are here to get an education, not play around. Young children, you are our future, so take your education serious. May God bless you.

I'm a 10Th grader at Cass.. and i love this school!.. i know some people dont really care for it.. but, most of the time its for 'personal reason!' I'm on the cheer team and hold a 3.0 and have many friends. But at the same time i have a loving family. Cass is a school were u need to have a good support system! Trust me! you need people behind you to help you in your time of need or else your find your self lost in the cracks of that huge building we all like to call CT!

I was recently academically dismissed from Cass Tech. I am not proud of this, but I do not think that Cass is the type of school that everybody think it is. People; as in teachers, family and friends expect a lot from you. It sometimes get stressful when you do have other things to do. I am not making excuses due to me gettings kicked out. I am excited about starting a new school, and meeting new people since my choice of friends wasnt so good. I wish my peers that are still at Cass the best of luck.

I am about to start my senior year at Cass Tech in the fall this year, and I can't express how excited I am to begin! This school has been all I thought it would be and much more. Not only does this school have a rare 'curriculum' program (possibly the only one in the state), but the classes are designed to help prepare students for college. There are a wide range of AP and honors classes to choose from. The staff is very friendly, and willing to help. You can tell the teachers really care. CT has a history of excellence and continues to maintain it. Each year, Cass Tech has several Bill Gates Millenium Scholars. The past school year had about 7, with one student whom I know for a fact will be attending Harvard in the fall. My only complaint is that some of the counselors aren't involved

I am a upcoming 11th grader in Cass Tech and like many other I like my high school. Cass, like any other high school, is full of teenagers who are raised by many different parents and in many different surroundings, so there are bound to be some problems. Just because a child goes to Cass doesnt mean that they will be taken from the many things that naturally happen in life like things getting stolen, but measures are taken to prevent that, requiring students to provide their own combination locks is one.

I am a graduate of Cass Tech 2007. Although Cass may have its problems here and there, it is an excellent school. I am now a Bio-Medical Engineer major thanks to Cass Tech. To the person who says they are disappointed, you'll find issues at every school but the curriculm is what is important. I'll never forget my days at Cass Tech they are already missed :). L.Walker

I am entering me sophmore year at Cass Tech and i have no other word that come to mind then excellent! Here at Cass you not only become a student but part of a legacy thathas been around for 100 years. Great things have come from this school, and it's great. The staff is fantastic and principle Ashford does nothing but look after her students and makes sure we remain #1 and second to one. Cass Tech, the one and only true place to be.

I am a junior at Cass Tech and it has been great. It is a college prep school of choice located close to downtown Detroit. You need to maintain a 2.5 minimum gpa to stay in the school. Also there is a multitude of extra-curricular activities you can do, from swimming to plays, plus the NHS, National Honor Society, that gives help on tuesdays and thursdays. It's a great school!

I graduated from Cass in '06, and I never had any problems. Responding to the latest review, I never had any of my belongings stolen from my locker. Granted, I only used a locker my senior year, but I never had a problem when I stored my belongings elsewhere. I thought the new school was very nice, and I hope it will continue to be nice, and that no one will mess it up.

I have a son in the 10th grade and I am also an alumni class of '91. I was excited and eager to have my son attend Cass Tech in the Fall of '06, however my excitment has turned into disappointment. The teacher/student involvement is cold and uninviting, teacher parent confernce set up is the pitts and recently my son's belongings were stolen from his locker. Cass Tech does have a very intense academic program and a very well maintained college prep curriculum, but the school has lost it's human touch. This will probably be my son's last year at Cass Tech.

Cass is an excellent school with an excellent music department. Hands down they have one of the greatest bands and orchestra ever. This school will forever be the greatest.

i attend cass i'm a freshman, and cass is wonderful.the teachers are helpful, and the students are polite and intelligent.the band is amazing.

I'm also a graduate of CT, class of 06. I thought the work was too extensive when i was there, but now that I'm in college and i see people who whent to other high schools dropping like flies, I'm very thankful for eminent (Cohen's word lol to those who get it)educationtional experience.

alum of Cass '06' I'll just say the bad since everyone else elaborated on the good already. -The same things that go on in other DPS schools' still happen here, just not as much. -Principal is barely there, you will mostly deal with the Dean. -Don't expect your relationship with the staff to be as personal as in a smaller school. Still probably the best school you can find in Detroit.

My daughter is currently a jr. at cass and I am an alumni. The opportunity to mingle with other intelligent, motivated children is the single largest factor to send your child to Cass. There is no real teaching innovation. Simply kids that had already demonstrated perserverance and achievement and a program that thrives on their accomplishments. Very good extra-curricular activities and relatively safe in comparison to other Detroit Public Schools. I am hoping Ms. Ashford will remedy the situation of apathy with many of the counselors and teachers.

I am disappointed by the lack of teacher availability at Cass. Many teachers have web sites on Teacher Webb but only one out of my son's 7 teachers updated it and even the one that did, only updated it sparingly. Calls to the teachers, voicemails, emails, etc. go unanswered unless you drive up there and complain to the department head. I thought the teachers would welcome parental involvement but so far, that has not been my experience. I've been told that the teachers are 'busy' but I am also busy on my job as well. Being busy does not excuse never responding to a parent inquiry. I hope Ms. Ashford addresses this before the next school year begins.

Cass Tech is great, there is many extracurricular activities, and yes it is hard work but you can make it.This is like any other high school with the exception that every student here has the same goal, to succed in life. You should really send your children here. Are you worried about diversity , worry not this school is diversed you find people from aroud the world just people that I know are from Macedonia, Germany, Hungary , Spain, Mexico, Bengali, China, Nigeria, Kenya and many other places you should truly join this school and be part of the Cass Tech experience.

I am a graduate of Cass Tech. Overall I rate the school 4/5 stars. The curriculum is excellent. Students are encouraged to choose a curriculum based on future interests. My curriculum was chemical biological. Some classes that I received based on my curriculum was honors chemistry, physics, algebra 1,2,3,4,5,6 geometry, biology, micro biology, pre calculus. The teachers are somewhat arrogant and focus more on academic bombardment than student success. The counselors are over worked which makes it hard to receive acceptable attention. Class sizes are extremely large so if a student is having trouble, its tough to receive help from instructors, although tutoring is available. Cass Tech's athletics are second to none. The school has won many championships in football, basketball, baseball, and swimming. The school ranks in the 90th percentile in the state in Meap scores. If you are interested in challenging your child Cass is great.

My daughter is a 10th grader at Cass. The students are great! They speak to adults as they walk in the building or as they are walking around the building. Some of the teachers are outstanding as well. (MATH, ENGLISH, and SOCIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENTS) However, the administration in inept, especially the principal, the counselors are obscure and unhelpful, and some of the teachers are teaching as if they are in the old building. (SCIENCE DEPARTMENT IS AWFUL)My daughter is happy for the most part there, and maintains a 3.000, but I thought the building would be better run, and that they would take advantage of the building. It's a beautiful building, with great technology, so why are they using students to get students out of class for doctor's appointments? I really hope that they can get it together soon, I have two younger children who are hoping to attend Cass.

Lewis Cass Technical High School is a magnificent school for students that plan to further their education after high school.Cass Tech has separated their students in specific curriculums according to their future aspirations. My student will be graduating in 2008, since attending Cass Tech he has shown a significant interest in furthering education. Although class are a larger than normal the instructor really motivate the students. However, there is a program at Cass that has really change my student, and I believe this program will help my son reach his best. This established organization is the world renown Cass Tech Marching Band, under the direction of Ms. Sharon Allen. The Marching Band has helped make my student into a mature young man and a wonderful leader. I couldn't thank Ms. Sharon Allen and Cass Tech enough for it's huge impact on my child's life. Thank You!! Sincerely, D.Jones

My daughter is currently enrolled in Cass. She will be in the 10th grade in the fall. I was so excited when she got in but things change. My child was told to get to school an hour earlier to avoid being late for class because of their security checks, and if the students were late after being in a security line of 20min they would get in trouble. The counselors are never availiable. I do think Cass has its advantages over other schools, but the focus need to remain on the students and not how great of a building their in.

I am an alumni of Cass Tech and my daughter will graduate in 2008. I must applaud the academic accomplishments of the students of the school. However, I am terribly dissappointed with the quality of teaching and the administration of the school. The teaching is largely uninspired and many of the teachers seem to delight in making the students perform academic gymnastics that have nothing to do with real or applied learning. The counselors are frequently unavailable or absent and unable to assist with basic tasks, such as scheduling changes. The principal is unresponsive to written communications or phone calls regarding legitimate concerns. It's more consistent with a college experience where tenure is the brass ring, rather than any demonstration of real teaching skills. I'm not sure what is measured, other than test scores. I don't see genuine concern for what the children internalize from their experience there.

My nephew is a Cass Technical High School graduate(2004)and will be a junior when he returns to college in the fall. He has never been on probation or asked to leave and has never not taken a class because he thought it was too difficult. I know that the academic challenges he conquered at Cass are the reason. I also like the way that students are encouraged to include other students from all walks of life. The diversity is such a wonderful way to be prepared for today's world.

My daughter attends Cass Tech and she will be one of the 465 senior graduates of 2006. Cass seemed to always give her a challenge and she managed to keep her G.P.A. at an 3.5 average. This school has wonderful teachers that give a challenge to the students and overall I feel that it is a very good high school.

My daughter attends Cass Tech. It is an awesome school that challenges her. In comparison to some of the surburban schools it closely ranks if not surpasses in some areas.I am very pleased with the care and genuine concern that some teachers give. Although this is a great school- beware of the Marching Band. Do not sign any contracts that is binding to the Marching Band. M.Brown

Cass Technical High school in my view cancels itself out.Its staff is highly professional, they know how to cover the work and explain in so that every student understands it. They have a wide variety of extra-curricular activities, ranging from Japanese Anime Club to Marching Band to Women's Rights club to teams for every sport you could imagine. The work is extensive and thorough. Nonetheless, there are other factors from within the school itself that ruins its image. First off, the GPA requirement is set to 2.5, which allows a vast number of students to get by with mediocre grades and still be recognized as 'hard-working and diligent' simply because they go to Cass Tech. Less than half of each graduating generation obtains a 3.0 or higher. Students are also frequently placed in wrong curriculums, which forces them to take classes that hold little or no relevance to their career goals.

The school is not all it is cracked up to be. Teachers are contstantly absent and there is no coverage. Therefore, students go home early or roam around. Students are not challenged. They are given the work and told to do it. Teaching is just 'by the book' with no room for creativity. Too much drama at the school, especially with the girls. I guess compared to the other Detroit Schools, this is as good as it gets. Unfortunately, besides the crime rate, it's not too much better. Teachers need to learn how to teach to the students and not just let the books do their jobs. I expected so much more from the school.

Cass is not all it's cracked up to be. The school is more concerned about minors things like electrical blinds than having soap and toilet paper in the restrooms. Many of the teachers are also unsatisfactory. They even go as far as taking personal phone calls during class time. Not only are teachers not good but the so called 'security guards' of the school are more childish than the students. In my opinion if the school was as worried about the other things as they were the school outward appearance it would be a grade a high school. Then the principle tries to show his intellignece by using words that only he can comprehend which isn't improving students knowledge but confusing them.

I am a proud 1980 graduate of Cass Tech and have kept up with the school's progress through the years. I attended the alumni pancake breakfast in February 2006 and I am pleased to report that it was a full house with graduates from every decade, including the 1930s!. The new building is a palace despite some reported glitches that can be fixed. Even with the old structure, Cass Tech's faculty and spirit nurtured some of the most successful high school graduates in Detroit history. From judges to entertainers to engineers to politicians, Cass Technical High School has more than its share of alumni movers and shakers. With the updated facilities, I look forward to more success stories out of one of America's greatest academic institutions - Cass Tech.

My daughter entered Cass Tech the Fall of 2005. I am very proud of her and her accomplishments thus far. I am most proud of the racial diversity Cass presents. My daughter is doing well and has learn so much in these few short months. When we attended orientation, I was impressed with Principal Cohen's 'green' Technician blood. Many of the teachers and counselors are Technician graduates; you can feel their commitment to the school and the success of its students. Cass Tech #1, second to NONE!

I am the proud parent of a incoming freshman. I am happy that my student started her academic career in the much needed new builing. After having attended my first parent teacher conference, I appreciate the level of attention and focus she is receiving from her teachers. As a member of the orchestra I like the dedication and support of the staff and parents. As the year progresses I will update my comment. Up to now, I have no alarming issues or concerns.

As a Junior at 'Cass Tech',I feel that since we got the new building the teachers totally did a 360. They've tried to become more advanced and the book/homework load is crazy. The new school building definately is not at all cracked its up to be, I mean its nice and everything, for a airport, but its too cold in all the tiny classes. And how does Mr. Cohen (the principal) expect us to get up the 6 levels of stairs in 5 minutes, not to mention if you need to use the restroom or go to your locker (the lockers aren't even whole) and make it to your destination in just 5 minutes. How non-considerate could you be? If you take my advice DO NOT send your son/daugher here. I passed the placement test, but my mom MADE me come here, all because she didn't graduate from here. I just depise it!!!

My daughter graduated in 2003. She loved Cass and so did I. I wanted my son to attend, because being a creative person in the music area Cass has the best music program in Detroit. Cass was great for my Daughter if it had not been for Mrs. McCormick at Cass a whole lot of students wouldn't have been able to go to college. Every year she gets students in College. My daughter got 54000 dollars in scholarhip money. I really wish my son could have got in.

I just graduated from cass tech, and I can honestly say that I am proud to be a cass technician. Cass gave me opportunities that NO other high school can give. I was accepted to 3 of the top 4 universities (harvard, princeton, MIT). I chose to go to Michigan only because I got a full scholarship. If I didn t go to cass, I am almost sure that i would not receive the majority of the scholarship. The school has a perfect infrastructure for students. Students are prepared for the 'real world'. Students from cass tech earn more scholarship money then any other high school in Detroit. In addition, we have the most students attending 4-year programs than any school in the city. WE are the best, cass tech #1, second to NONE.

My Cass Technical High School had books which were worn and used, with the names of students in the back cover, covering every semester as far back as the book could handle. . There were lunch cards and bustickets for those who could not afford to pay. There were lockers on seven floors with enough for all students. My Cass 'Tech' had about 3500 students with a capacity for 7000 if hours were added as when my sister went, with a time span from 7:00am until 5:00pm. My day was from 8:00am until 3:00pm. We had a security and police presence.

I am a member of Cass Tech's class of 2005,and my mother graduated from Cass in 1971. This school is THE BEST PUBLIC SCHOOL in Detroit. Cass Tech produces leaders for tomorrow. I am proof. While I was enrolled in Cass I was a member of Business Professionals of America, National Honor Society, and a high ranking officer in Army JROTC, all while maintaining a 3.5 overall GPA. In the fall I am attending one of the best schools in the country, University of Michigan. There are so many reasons to send your child here, but the best one I can give you is the experience you have at Cass is incomparable to any other high school. Sure, the student body is big, and there are different types of people. That is the beauty of this school. Cass prepares you for college and beyond. I know I am ready because of Cass.

I attended Cass Technical High School and graduated in 2002. Yes, it is a challenging school, but I learned and enhanced the skills needed to make it in college. If you do not want to pay for a private school education, or you want your child to be 'well-rounded' send them to Cass Tech. Yes, you get a lot of work. Yes, there are Advanced Placement classes. Yes, the administrators conduct hall sweeps. And yes, it's EXPECTED of the parents to take an active role in their children's education, but all of these things help mold Cass Tech graduates into not only productive members of society, but HIGH ACHIEVING members of society.

I am a graduate of Cass Technical High School class of 1970. CT is the best high school in the city of Detroit, that has dedicated teachers and students. My daughter will graduate on June 13, 2005. She will be attending Florida A&M University. The abdundant wealth of knowledge she has acquired while at Cass prepared her for meeting all Michigan and, federal examinations thus allowing her to attend the university of her choice. She passed the MEAP Test while in the 11th grade and receiving a $1,250.00 scholarship. Why not go here? Cass Tech # 1, Second to None!

Cass is a wonderful school it one of the best high schools in the city. Cass has many extra actitives like band , dance, Jr rotc (ect).Cass is getting a new build in 2005 as you drive by it looks wonderful. My mother, father, all my brothers and sister attend or attending Cass came out sucessfully and are doing many things with their lifes . I advise anyone anywhere to attend Cass THE BEST SCHOOL IN THE CITY OF DETRIOT!

I have a 7th grade daughter at Golightly Educational Center, and she plans to go to Cass. I am a 1972 grad of Cass, my sister is a 1960 grad, our father was a 1935 grad of Cass. Also several cousins, aunts and uncles all were grads of Cass. I am an educator myself, a professor at the College for Creative Studies, so I follow closely what goes on in the schools; not long ago I participated in mural workshops at Cass with several students. While I am not pleased with the truncating of the Arts Department, which historically has turned out wonderful creative workers, I am looking forward to participating with my alma mater to insure that CASS TECH maintains its great reputation.

This very large school is very much so a stress load on anyone who attends or has a child who attends the school. It is a very unhealthy environment and lacks to bring out the potential in its students. Good features to the school are its many extracurricular activities and clubs/ organizations, and the upcoming new building for a much needed, better environment. The present building should NOT be occupied by people.

This is a small school one story buildings. Fits up to 5 grade levels (7-11) next year (8 or 9-12). This is a great academic school. We have nice educational teachers and would like more students to come to this school.

In all honesty, Cass was a pretty good school. The only issue in which people complained about when I was there (1997-2001) was the building quality. However, with the construction of the new school, those issues should diminish. While I had a few run-ins with teachers whom my parents and I had problems with concerning their overall respect and attidute for my education, there were numerous faculty personnel avaiable who made up for these lackadaisical attitudes. As an athlete, I found that the competition was relatively poor compare to other schools outside Detroit, except in basketball. There is a strong parent and alumni support for Cass (great school spirit), which helps the school obtain a certain level of excellency and pride. Also, safety was never an issue for me while there. Overall I enjoyed Cass for what it was, and can only assume that they're steadily building their educational standards.

My child will be attending his second year at cass and i truly love the school the leadership that is being taught as well as academics. One thing that really sits well with me is when your child is not in class the school recording system will call you and inform, i think that's great do to how many children actually attend cass. I must commend the counselors over at cass at least my childs counselor when i e-mail him he actually gets back with me. The one thing that has not been to my satisfactory is that my child has not taken the classes in which the program he has signed up for.

I loved attending Cass Tech. I am a graduate of the class of 2002 and am entering my 3 year at Michigan State Universtiy. Cass is a very unique school. It is the only public high school in the country to have a harp program and I am happy to say that I was a student of this program. Cass has majors for the students so when its time to go to college the students kinda have an idea of what they are going to major in. Cass is a very competive school. I graduated with a 3.004 and there were way more kids with higher GPA's than below mine. I loved the teachers I had at Cass, even the 'hard and mean ones'. I was truly prepared for college after my graduation from Cass.

Cass Technical H.S has been a part of my families history for quit sometime. I've had 2 children attend CT and they both graduated with honors. I highly recommend Cass for any parent/guardian to encourage their child to attend this school, especially if they intend on furthering their education. Cass has been a great when with instructing and showing children the imporance of disciplining themselves when it comes to applying themselves to there studies. I applaud the staff of Cass Technical H.S class of 1999 & 2002 of which my children were a part of and now attending College: Wayne State Univ. and the other attends Baker College. My sister-inlaw, class of 1969 a niece class of 1993 all Cass Alumni graduates and I my nephew will be graduating this year 2004.

My son is currently attending Cass Tech. and I have found this school to be an excellent school for those children that can keep up a rigorous schedule. They offer a vast array of extracurricular activities and they really keep the kids involved. Their entire program is geared at college bound students and they have access to programs that most other schools don't even know exist. I like the fact that they stay up on your child's progress so that it will enable them to go to a good college. If your child can qualify for this school I would highly recommend their attendance.
