“Carstens Elementary School is indeed the finest learning establishment in the entire nation in which it is an ideal model of excellence that all schools urban/suburban should pattern themselves after. What makes this institution so unique is that it implements programs that are not only academically/socially enriching such as After School Tutorial, Saturday School and Year Around Parent University, it also facilitates as an ongoing community center sponsoring such activities as City of Detroit Recreation, Chess Club, Academic Games, Junior Achievement, Soccer, Metro Detroit Girl Scouts/Boy Scouts as well as the Junior League just to name a few. Carstens also has a year around Parenting Education University whuich was nationally recognized by John Hopkins University in the Partnerships that Work 2006. Our parent center provides on going emergency services and outreach provisions for families in and around the Carstens School and it's surrounding community. Monthly Field Trips are always constant!”

“Carstens Elementary is in a way an icon in Detroit. It was my mother's elementary school and she's 81 years old! However, Carstens is, without a doubt, a school of the 21st century. The children's academic and personal growth is the top priority of all of the staff. The principal is an outstanding leader who always puts the children first, enlists the support of the community & others, and communicates effectively with parents. The teachers creatively motivate students academically, but care about students personally as well. They clearly work as a cooperative team to help all students -- not just 'their own.' Carstens has an outstanding after-school program that includes academic courses and tutoring as well as optional activities such as karate, 'step' and drum corp. They also offer Saturday school and have held workshops for parents. Thank you, Carstens!”
