However, in the last couple of years, I feel it's become very impersonal, and it seems like the staff more blatantly put their own interests above the interests of the children (and parents). The environment is great. The teachers are engaged. And I have never before seen a principal so involved: from greeting the children who get off the bus in the morning, to being a real dynamo public speaker who engages the children at every assembly, to answering my five-year-old daughter's email during summer vacation in such a personal way, my daughter talks about how much she loves her! It's a wonderful school. The teachers are engaged and work great with the kids, the special ed team is awesome, and there's a great balance of progressive approaches with the tried and true. My son just completed kindergarten, and has had a very positive experience. The teachers and staff are wonderful and involved with the community. Class sizes are small and there is lots of parent involvement to help give more one on one attention to the students. The teachers there were simply amazing compared to ones that I have seen before. I came during second grade, and fell in love with the place almost that very day. I remember not wanting to leave when I was nearing the end of fifth grade, and had gone as far as not do work properly in hope that I would fail and stay for a second year. All in all, I believe that this was and is the greatest elementary school in Ann Arbor.”
