Sewickley Academy Reviews

My daughter has attened for over 7 years. Your child will be challenged. Academics first, athletics are just an added bonus.

I have students who attended public high schools and one child who was a student-athlete an attended grades 9 through 12. While expensive, I belive the Academy was well woth it for my child. The curriculum was demanding and the teachers were wonderful. The athletic programs and coaching were quite good. I found that my child and their classmates were far better prepared for college than their public school peers, and were better behaved with generally higher goals. I would do it all over again.

Aug, 2007 - current parents of rising 2nd and 5th graders who started in pre-K. The teachers have been universally wonderful, and the learning fantastic. Expect a lot of homework very early. I cannot say for sure that the tuition fully justifies the difference in curriculum and results from local public schools; it's incredibly high. I also think the current administration needs to be more responsive to parents' participation and suggestions... we are customers after all! Teachers are easy to communicate with, and know our children well.

SA's teachers are good. My child enjoys the time at school. However, I agree with the June 2006 rating, it is not a friendly or welcoming place for parents.

Sewickley Academy is A wonderful school! I learned lots of interesting things. I had Previously been in a public school for part of the year and entered the same grade at Sewickley there is a huge difference in the curriculum.Things we were learning at that time at Sewickley Academy The public would be learning the same things in about 2 years. I think Sewickley's major strengths are the teachers. There all very nice, caring and helpful. My time at Sewickley Academy I had absolutely wonderful teachers. I have to disagree with two other people's comments 1. I happen to think that sewickley Academy's art's are fantastic. Each division of school puts on at least one Broadway play every year. 2. Some person said the kids there were spoiled brats but she sent his/her son their and he got a good education but wouldn't send him there again.O.k. Sewickley Academy is fantastic.

Overall, Sewickley Academy does an excellent job preparing its students for colleges. While the Academy is not perfect, I feel comfortable saying that it is the best school and environment for kids to attend in the Pittsburgh area. The academic programs are rigorous and teach students about time management and handling work on a college level. The fine arts are very limited and probably the weakest aspect about Sewickley's curriculum. However, the academics make up for it and frankly leave little time for art or music to be completed in addition to school work and sports. Parent involvement is quite apparent, however, it is limited to a few parents that monopoloize the opportunities and create and unfriendly environment for newcomers. The new headmaster has raised a lot of controversy and so far has not made a good impact on the Academy.

Overall it is a good institution. I mean there are good teachers, spoiled kids, and a lot of money here. I would not send my kid here again, but it gave him a good education.

Excellent caring staff, high standards.

My child went there for Kindergarten. What an excellent school! Although extremely expensive, you get what you pay for in terms of culture and academics. My child learned about anatomy, space, and Picasso in Kindergarten! I highly recommend it.
