Edison-Oakland Public School Academy Reviews

My son went to edison from2007-2008 and it was the worst decision I ever made that school had nothing to offer and my son did not get the extra help they promise me he would with tutoring and so on but nothing was ever done to accomodate my sons special needs like one on one tutoring and Spec.Ed classes like they did for him at Bradford Academy in southfield and how they are doing at ferndale middle school the teachers were rude and mean to the students everytime I walked down the hall a teacher was always hollering at some student and teachers the ones I dealt with always acted like they were to busy to return a call or made you feel like you were bothering them. I would not recommend that school to anyone who is concerned about their childs education. It was horrible

My children attended for 5 years but each year the administration and the issues with the building and the air condition seemed to worsen. No child can learn or function in extreme heat, the school setting is not horrible, yet I have seen the staff do better and show more concern for students and parents.

My family is very Sad, Sad, that we chose this school and now caught-up because other schools have a waiting list. The principal talks to parents very disrespectful, the teachers do not use a normal voice tone to speak with the children, and if they get the education or not is not thier concern, it is just making the count on count day .

i find mrs. terry, mrs.madden and the other staff at EOPSA to be excellent teachers for my children. thank you!

My child began EOPSA in the kindergarten and have been there for 3 years. I continued to send my child to this school because I figured it was better than DPS, however, the administration and the building needs help! I called to the office with a question and was interrupted when asking the question, then put on hold forever (on my cell phone-peak minutes), then hung-up on. The office admin. needs to get better. The building needs a lot of work. There is no cooling system. Some teachers bought air conditioners/fans out of their own pocket for their classroom. The admin canceled school for 3 days due to extreme heat due to lack of a cooling system. With the distance I travel to get my child there, the gas prices at over $4/gal. and the customer service, etc, my child will not be back for '08-'09 year! Signed, 3yrs=3 strikes WE OUT!

My daughter has attended EOPSA for the last two years, and while the school was great last year this year has been a big disappointment. The principle and administration have no clue how to run a school. No one can ever answer your questions, and some of the teachers are just there for a paycheck. I actually feel sorry for the two good teachers that they do still have. Last year(2007) I would hav given EOPSA 5 stars but as it stands now -0 stars is the rating from me. Signed concerned parent, whose child will not be returning.

My child has attended this school since Kindergarten and is currently in third grade. Since last school year the school has really went down the drain. The principal and those beneath her do not enforce the No Tolerants rule. If you are a parent that want more for your child this is not the school for you. There are some great teachers there but will they be there next year, is the question. The school really needs new administation (prinicpal and below) to improve the school. Also the bathroom really needs work.

My daughter started going to EOPSA last year and I was very pleased with everything about the school. If I were rating based on last year alone I would give it 4 1/2 stars. I am sad to say however that now she is in the junior acadamy and I am very unsatisfied with the everything about the junior academy. The kids seem very misbehaved and the teachers seem to have no control and no desire to gain control. The do not communicate well witht he parents and much much more. I hope they get things together, but it has gotten so ad that I feel my daughter will not return. I say grades K-5 are great!

At the beginning of the 2007 school year. My daughter decided that she wanted to change schools and go to one that is more comfortable. We picked out EOPSA because of the great reviews. When I went to enroll for the 3rd grade I was told that it was full. Because I was there i went ahead and filled the papers out. My daughter was so, so, sad. The principle told me that she was going to find a spot for my daughter because it was no way she was going to turn a student away. Ever since my daughter looks forward to going to each day and very happy with her teachers. I want to say thank you for taking my daughter in and giving her the best education.

My daughter started attending Edison in 2007. She was in 2nd grade and I was a bit apprehensive coming from a private school but to my surprise I just loved her teacher Ms. Evans. She was phenomenal, my daughter learned a lot under her leadership and I couldn't have asked for anything more. There are somethings that need improvement but what school doesn't have those. If we as parents took more time helping resolve our schools issues instead of constantly complaining about the issue all of our schools would be better. Edison Oakland has the academics down pat they just need a little bit of TLC in other areas. So parents lets dig in and help build this school up not tear it down with useless and senseless slander.

There are a couple of great teachers, other than that, the school is a mess. My daughter was in a huge class and the teacher could not handle them.

I have two children that attend this school and one child that graduated 6th grade at this school, I am very satisfied with the education my children have received here. they have extended day programs and latchkey for parents that work long hours like my wife and I, at affordable rates. there could always be improvements but right now my oldest child attends a school that is a Freddy Krueger nightmare in comparison with this school.

Dear Interested Parents, This school is very exciting for me because the teachers go step by step with us so the students can understand it. I struggle in Math so the teacher goes over it the next day and makes sure we write our notes. The lunch service can be a little better. The kids are doing great. Most of the school is on the honor roll and you should send your child here. Also in the 07-08 year there will be a 7th grade and 08-09 year they'll be adding an 8th grade. Thank You. Sincerely, A student of EOPSA

This is a progressive school that gets the fundamentals right. The teachers encourage and inspire the students. I have been lucky to have my son exposed to wonderful teachers that encourage his ability to envision a different world and gain an appreciation of the present one. One thing these teachers do that other schools do not is to seek out opportunities for the students for recognition and learning opportunities. It is a good school.

This has got to be one of the worst schools running. The teachers are constantly leaving, the kids are unruly, and the leadership is oblivious. All my kids do is take tests and get yelled at for talking. The staff is bitter and fed up and it shows.

My daughter has attended this school since the 4th grade, now she is in the 6th grade. I love that she enjoys coming to school everyday and is willing to learn. I am so excited about her progression at this school. I would recommend this school for anyone that is interested.

Edison is a very good school to enroll in. They have great teachers here. The learning envoirment is excellent, the students are well behaved in their classes, and the school is good to me.

This school is the worst my daughter has ever been to. Please do not enroll your children here. It is not a safe or responsible environment. I regret ever enrolling my daughter here!

Edison Oakland is an exceptional school. My daughter his been a student there since kindergarten, now she's in first grade. She is doing well academically and shows improve everyday. I adore the teachers that I have encountered. The teachers are on there job and all about the childrens education. I am glad that I was introduced to such a great school with great teachers, who care, on staff. The parking lot needs alot of improvement, otherwise this school is the place that I would recommend anyone to enroll there child. Centa Benson

I travel about 10 miles per day so that my daughter can continue to recieve a quality education. The quality of academic programs are wonderful, my child has maintained a 4.0 Gpa for all 4 years scoring above average on meap and terra nova tests! Teachers and administrators are the caring and professional staff that all parents hope for. The parking lot situation is something that can be dealt with because this is a great school setting. Way to go Edison Oakland Public School Academy... Keep up the great works

Oakland Edison is a great choice for education. my children attend the school and over the last two years my complaints have been few to none. The parking lot is a MESS but the academics are close to the best in a Public School setting.

I am glad I that I decided on Edison Oakland the school my son came from left him unprepared for first grade. This was the first year that we attended Edison and my son has shown much improvement in school. I want to thank Edison Teachers for making sure my son received the extra help he needed.

I give Edison-Oakland Academy a 5 star salute. The quality of their teaching is excellent. My 2 children have been attending the school from the day it opened. There is great interaction and parent participating with this school. I can't say enough about this school. It's to bad there isn't a Edison High school.

I am glad I chose this school because my daughter is doing great! The school she was attending before she came to EOPSA didn't challenge her enough. Thanks to all the teaching staff that works with my daughter.
