Shaler Area Middle School Reviews

Shaler Middle School is great. The teachers are fun and I have learned a lot. The layout is very easy to learn. There are many activities to participate in from ski club to chess club. I love everything about it! Especially the new renovations-It looks wonderful.

Shaler Area Middle School is mediocre at best. The teachers are uninspiring.

Academically this school is lacking. The teachers just hand out work and there is really no teaching. There are only a few hands on activities throughout the school year.On my opinion it feels as though the majority of the teachers don't really care about the students. Also it seems like the only parents who are contacted are the parents of the bad children and the mentally disabled. I feel that if your child is a well behaved normal student you lack the attention given to the other parents.

This middle school is rather large compared to others. However, the academic teams do a wonderful job of creating an atmosphere conducive to individual learning. The teams also help create an environment where students can find a sense of belonging. As for activities, there aren't many middle schools with as many as Shaler Area. If your child is interested in participating in an activity then they will have an opportunity. From yearbook club, to ski club, to intramural hockey, this school provides children with a chance to become involved. In addition, just this year a trip to Washington D.C. has been set-up to conclude a wonderful experience at the school.

The school's quality is rather lackluster. It is unfun and the teecher's are mean. Fortunatly they tought me good. I don't understand the format of the school. It is only one floor, and it is tough to navigate from one side to another in only two minutes. Extracurricular activities are practically non-existant. The discipline not good there either.

I'm sorry, but this school is a real 'downer'. The teaching is sub-par, the extracurricular activities are lacking, homework is overbearing, and the school is in a disgusting state. The school is rather sad in a way, with all of it problems and such.

I think that Shaler Area Middle School is a good school. Of course there could be improvement but what school doesn't. I think the parent involvement could improve. Parents need to take active resposibilty insuring the education of their kids and not making it fall all to the teachers. I believe if parents get involved with the teachers each child has a better chance of success.

Fifth grade is a difficult time of transition, and doing it in the Middle School is even more difficult. However, by 7th grade, things settle down. By and large the teachers are very caring people who invest a lot of time in their students. Some of the teachers are excellent educators, who my child has been fortunate to learn from. All in all, I have been pleased with the education my child has received. I am impressed by the principals and suspect that things at the school will continue to improve for everyone.

A few of the teachers at Shaler Area Middle School are preaching their own opinions to our children. This should be stopped. Personal opinion about moral and ethical issues are notg part of the curriculum. Action should be taken against these teachers.

Shaler Area School district has the worst Special Ed dept. I fought the school district for 3 years regarding my child that has several different disabilities such as epilepsy, Cerebral Palsy and a apraxia of speech. They could not and would not comply with the laws. I now homeschool my child and gee I still pay school taxes.
