There are many activities to participate in from ski club to chess club. I love everything about it! Also it seems like the only parents who are contacted are the parents of the bad children and the mentally disabled. However, the academic teams do a wonderful job of creating an atmosphere conducive to individual learning. The teams also help create an environment where students can find a sense of belonging. As for activities, there aren't many middle schools with as many as Shaler Area. If your child is interested in participating in an activity then they will have an opportunity. From yearbook club, to ski club, to intramural hockey, this school provides children with a chance to become involved. It is only one floor, and it is tough to navigate from one side to another in only two minutes. Extracurricular activities are practically non-existant. Of course there could be improvement but what school doesn't. I think the parent involvement could improve. Parents need to take active resposibilty insuring the education of their kids and not making it fall all to the teachers. However, by 7th grade, things settle down. By and large the teachers are very caring people who invest a lot of time in their students. Some of the teachers are excellent educators, who my child has been fortunate to learn from. All in all, I have been pleased with the education my child has received.
