North Allegheny Senior High School Reviews

I attended 5 highschools in my school career. I have been to public school, private school, boarding school, independant school and done homeschooling. Out of all of those North Allegheny was my favorite of all. It was the last school I went to and I enjoyed it thoroughly. The teachers are all very supportive and go out of their way to help you. The principal (Dr. B) makes every student feel welcome, and even knows every students' name which is an incredible feat in a school this large. I would definately reccommend this school for anyone who wants a superior education and a place to be proud to call their own.

I am a 2003 alumni of NA. I had always heard that it was a good school, and I enjoyed my time there, but I never realized the extent to what a spectacular education NA gave me until I reached college. I went to a top ranked private university where I am competing with students who spend thousands of dollars to go to private high schools to prepare themselves for University level studies. I was able to successfully use the knowledge I had gained at NA to surpass many of them in my studies. While the taxes are quite a bit more, they are worth every penny in order to really give your child a step up on the competition no matter what college or university they choose to attend.

As a (proud) 2006 NA graduate I hope to provide a recent review. I was new in 10th grade and the size was intimidating (it took a year to find close friends), but I would advise new students to join several clubs (ex. Z Club or Thespian Society) to make it seem like a smaller place. The quality of the academic programs is superb: I took 6 AP classes and both enjoyed and felt prepared by all of them. NA lacks true diversity because of its suburban Pittsburgh location, but the high school is generally welcoming. NASH teachers are especially approachable and concerned about students. Dr. Butterini deserves all the praise he gets: his

Great School and the teachers seem to care a great deal about the students. A bit large for our child in the amount of students but he did very well there.

My education at North Allegheny Senior High School thoroughly prepared me for life in college and beyond. I will always be thankful to Mr. Gliozzi and Mrs. Keys for fostering my passion for and love of the English language. I will never forget our days with the novels Ethan Frome and The Sun Also Rises (Hemingway's misogyny and the 'War is hell' theme), Sartre's No Exit, the poetry of Maya Angelou and Robert Frost...the in-class essays that honed valuable college exam writing skills. These teachers facilitated lively discussions of literature and helped me to further hone my critical writing skills, although my ninth grade teacher first taught me how to write a literary essay. Mrs. Lake, Ms. Beatty Mrs. Giampetro and others also provided rigorous, college-level coursework. The teachers and educational programs provided at N.A.S.H. are stellar and inspired me to become an educator. I hope to inspire my own students.
