Pittsburgh’s art scene sparkles like the city. Don’t miss the city’s four premier art venues. The Carnegie Museum of Art showcases American art from the 18th century, Post-Impressionist and French Impressionist paintings and decorative arts from the 17th century to today. Travel around the world of architectural masterpieces in the spectacular Hall of Architecture and the elegant Hall of Sculpture is built from the same imported marble as the Parthenon in Athens. The Andy Warhol Museum, another of the big four Carnegie Museums, pays tribute to Pittsburgh’s native son showcasing more than 4,000 forms of Warhol’s pop art, photographs, films and videos. Pittsburgh’s most unique art venue is the nearby Mattress Factory, but don’t expect to catch a nap there. There are no beds in the Mattress Factory. The former mattress factory is a very avant-garde, wild and wacky contemporary art museum packed with the talent of in-residence artists.

Pittsburgh’s performing arts take center stage. Enjoy full-scale Broadway touring productions and top national and international entertainers at the Benedum Center. Kuntu Repertory Theater is Pittsburgh’s oldest and largest African American performing arts organization. Look for fresh new plays and entertainers filling the playbill at City Theatre Company, Byham Theater and The Cabaret at Theater Square. It’s also worth planning a visit to the Three Rivers Arts Festival, a 17-day extravaganza of visual and performing arts held in downtown Pittsburgh each June.
