Interlacing salsa, plena, bomba, and other Afro-Cuban beats with electronica, Brazilian samba, classic jazz harmonies, funked-up improvised jam sessions, and explosive brass, the Washington Post has called Bio Ritmo’s performances a “notorious guaranteed good time.”
Scorning the cardboard corazón sentiments of commercial salsa, Bio Ritmo weaves the classic virtuosity of ’70s salsa legends like Willie Colon with the spirit of rock innovators like David Bowie. Their sound pushes into untamed reaches with an original repertoire that’s as solid as gravity and as wild as a solar flare. Bio Ritmo creates songs for thinking dancers – rhythms from the blood that take flight on wings of poetic jazz. It’s indie and experimental. It’s music that moves both the synapses and the feet.
