Tips

  • Must-Do
Call ahead to make a sales appointment to try on gowns or select a size for your gown order.
  • Shotgun?
Hey, no problem. "Maternity Bridal" available here. Don't sacrifice a loose fit in the butt when all you need is a little more room in the tummy.
  • Quite a Rep
According to Carlisle's, they are one of the most "highly regarded bridal stores in the United States." They also say that personal referrals and word-of-mouth account for 80 percent of their new business.
  • A Bit of History
The salon has been in the Carlisle family for five generations, opened by Sophia Carlisle, a frontier woman entrepreneur.

Worst experience trying on dresses!
Reviewed by Pitt8 on 2009-02-06T14:05:57Z

This was the worst experience I have had trying on wedding dresses. 1) WEBSITE: I asked to see a dress that was on the website and they had no idea what was on their website. I tried to describe it, still nothing. Then I asked if the could pull up the website and they said they didn't have internet. 2) Employee: the girl I had to help with dresses just said "Go through and pull the dresses you want to try on." I told her I was new to this and wanted some of her suggestions. She pulled a few dresses but wasn't very excited about me being there at ALL! 3) Dresses: It was a small selection and a lot of the dresses looked like they were 10 years old with fraying ends and makeup stains on the dresses. The worst part is that most of the dresses were a size 6 or 8 and I need a 10 or 12. All of the dresses looked horrible on me b/c they were no where near my size, not to mention this is supposed to be a good experience for a new bride, instead it was humiliating. I am not a big person but I am not a size 6 either! They told me I didn't have to bring anything with me when I asked if I needed to bring a bra or shoes or a slip. They didn't give me a slip and the strapless bra was very old and poorly made. 4) Bridesmaids dresses: The selection was poor and there were several dresses that had styles of the 1980s or dresses that someone would wear for an ice skating or dancing with the stars routine. By those dresses being at this place, I knew this was not the place for me. I have since been to nicer bridal shops and had a great experience. Some of my friends had a better experience at Carlisle's but I wanted to share mine. Just being honest.

Pros: location

Cons: service and selection

I did not end up getting my dress from Carlisles, but I am very glad that I experienced their establishment. The staff was very friendly and super accomadating. I really did find a dress that was fantastic, but it came in second to my ultimate choice. I would highly recommend visiting Carlisles!

They have the most beautiful wedding dresses. I love the selection the staff and basically everything about it. My friend got her wedding gown there and I had to get my bridesmaid dress there. The cost was average but the seamstress and the service was wonderful. I am very thankful that the bride to be had such a good experience and more importantly so did I. Our dresses came in in a timely fashion and they look beautiful. They also have wonderful accessories to go with the gowns.

As the first place I went to shop for my wedding gown, I did not know what to expect when I walked into Carlisle's. What I found were women who were eager to help and excited to be a part of your special journey. They were amazingly attentive and helpful. While I ultimately purchased my gown from another store because they carried the designer I was looking for, I would highly recommend Carlisle's. I purchased my bridesmaid dresses from them and am happy that they will still be part of my special day. If you are going, ask for Evelyn - she is wonderful!
