The Carnegie Museum of Natural History is Pittsburgh's window into the past. A rich learning experience that is both fun and exciting, the exhibits at the Museum of Natural History include one-of-a-kind pieces like dinosaur fossils and precious geodes alongside animals, native American exhibits and even information on space and space travel.

Founded by industrialist Andrew Carnegie in 1896, the Pittsburgh Museum of Natural History is ranked among the top 5 natural history museums in the United States. It boasts 20 exhibit halls. The Dinosaur Hall is the most popular exhibit and features the skeletons of several dinosaurs including two Tyrannosaurus fossils that are posed in a fight with each other. Thousands of Egyptian artifacts, including an almost-4000-year-old boat, are on display.

Ample parking is on-site, and the cost varies depending on length of the visit. Three dining options are available to help you refuel during your visit. The Carnegie Cafe is a buffet-style self-serve cafeteria, while the Fossil Fuels restaurant serves up sandwiches, salads, pastries and beverages. There is also a brown-bag lunch room that is available for those who wish to bring their own meals. The brown-bag room can be reserved by groups in advance.

A museum gift shop is available on-site and is filled with thousands of items that will keep your visit fresh in your mind. Children's toys, jewelry and even space food (freeze-dried ice cream, anyone?) are available for purchase.

A variety of programs and classes are offered throughout the year at the museum. For a list of events, click here.
